Emma Anticlimax will be bringing her “inspiring, scary, and beautiful” zines to the Zine Machine.

“emma anticlimax is a small gray possum who’s interested in writing about media, narrative, abuse, mental illness, and herself. she’s a college freshman in greensboro and probably wants to talk to you about dogs and her love of waffle house” -emma

R. Crumb likes the Zine Machine poster!

This just in from legendary cartoonist R. Crumb:

“The promotional flyer for the “Zine Festival” that Christoph Mueller made is a beautiful thing. Do you have any idea how much time and concentration it takes to do a thing like this? There is a LOT of work in this little flyer! To do such an elaborate, tightly executed design — the preparation, the careful planning of the layout, the tight precision of the lettering and borders… Unbelievable. This young artist is certainly NOT AFRAID OF WORK!”

-R. Crumb, Dec. 19th, 2014

CONGRATS (and thank you again), Christoph Mueller!

Spotlight on BRIANNA GRIBBEN!

brianna_gribben_05b

We’re excited to welcome Brianna Gribben to the Zine Machine! Brianna writes that she is “a sculptural mixed-media artist born and raised among the pine trees and sandhills of North Carolina. She creates as a way to understand herself, connect with others, and to breakdown cultural expectations around gender, beauty, shame, and the grotesque.

At Zine Machine she will have issues #1-3 of her zine, me-party, which explores various themes including: southern culture, strong-willed women, radical acceptance, self-portraits, and healing.”

Spotlight on RIO AUBRY TAYLOR!

RioZm2 Rio Aubry Taylor  will be premiering two totally cool folding zines, Carnitas! and Commander! Ze writes us: “Rio Aubry Taylor is a multidisciplinary cartoonist specializing in psychedelic comics and other weird-ass shit. Ze possesses an MFA from the Center for Cartoon Studies and has been published by The National Cartoonists Society and The Swedish Comics Association. Rio leads private lessons and workshops in Carrboro, NC, where ze is also working on a super-secret/giant project (ask about it!).”

Spotlight on TRACE RAMSEY!

GLND quitter_7 quitter_8_lg

Trace Ramsey is the creator of Quitter zine. This from Pioneer Press: “What do you do when you realize the whole system is chock full of faulty wiring and institutionalized myths? Do you stay behind that desk (whether metaphorical or literal) and burrow into the security of “living in the first world” or do you throw yourself into the wilds? Sometimes it’s not so black and white, and sometimes “cutting ties” requires a privilege and skill-set we don’t have.

In this anthology of Quitter issues 1-6, we see Ramsey battling fear and freedom, history and an uncertain future. There are no hard and fast answers; nothing set in stone besides the guarantee of chaos and troubled waters ahead. Over the course of 64 pages, Trace struggles through life, winning and failing, looking for a better path but not always finding it.”
